It’s been a season of big name failures, with plenty of big name Premier League players failing to live up to their high standards. It is becoming clear, however, that Wayne Rooney might be at the top of this list – England’s top goalscorer’s dip in form started towards the end of last season already and seems to be getting worse.

He did break his Premier League scoring drought last weekend but after his midweek performance, it seems United fans are not convinced that his fortunes are changing. Many say he was the worst player on the field against Wolfsburg and that he is merely stealing a salary at the moment. Is this what happens when you pick your captain before picking your team? Seems to be a growing trend in sport at the moment. As pointed out on www.101greatgoals.com,
United fans took to Twitter to voice their disapproval.
Can someone cut all Rooney’s best touches tonight together with the Benny Hill soundtrack — United Rant (@unitedrant) September 30, 2015
Big win for United. Smalling and Mata good. Surprised there wasn’t police announcement asking for info on missing 29-year-old Wayne Rooney.

Rooney is basically just Ashley Williams up front now. Plodding around, out of breath and smelling of fish & chips. Not even funny any more. — Brenzie (@Brenzie) September 30, 2015
If football had an ‘unforced errors’ stat, Rooney would be right at the top of the list — Doron Salomon (@DoronSalomon) September 30, 2015
Fully believe lvg won’t drop Rooney because he’s captain…. There’s absolutely no other reason he continues to start games. — Niall (@Niall_84) September 30, 2015
think someone had better hide the captain’s armband next time we play so that LvG can’t pick Rooney in his starting XI for some times. — dredarmy (@dredarmy) September 30, 2015
When is Van Gaal going to show us his big balls that he’s suppose to have and drop Rooney. Give the captaincy to the fussball meister — Twat Waffle (@Jay76_MUFC) September 30, 2015
Do him a favor and drop Rooney. Painful watching him do this week in week out. Lad needs a wake up call. #MUFC

The writing is on the wall when 86% of a United fan account’s followers think Rooney should no longer be an automatic starter…

What are your thoughts on Rooney’s current form? Should he be dropped?
Did I write this to make myself feel better about Chelsea’s stars who are not performing? I don’t like to comment on wild accusations that might hold water.
