We Tried the DayToDay Fitness Box. This Is What Happened

DayToDay Fitness Box Meals

I’ve always had a bit of a knack for cooking, something I learned from my old man.

These days, between working and blogging and trying to stay fit (or get fit again), I hardly find time to cook proper meals and generally settle for anything quick and easy, which usually means it’s not very healthy.

Meal boxes have been around for quite some time and I’ve always been keen to give it a try – especially when I heard that DayToDay now offers a Fitness Box, curated by their in-house dietician.

Mariella is quite the athlete as she recently finished 2nd at Iron Man and the DayToDay Fitness Box was designed for people who want to keep fit and healthy, with no time to stand around in shopping queues.

This option immediately peaked my fancy, and I decided to give it a bash for a week.

How It Works

Pretty simple, actually. You place your order online (use PUNDITS-FITNESSBOX at checkout and get R200 off) at DaytoDay.co.za

They then send you the DayToDay Fitness Box in a neatly packed box (duh) which contains all the main ingredients for 4 meals for the week. All you need to add, are some basic things like butter, salt & pepper and other things that most people would have in their kitchens.

The ingredients come in a box, packed neatly and with enough ice-packs to keep it cool while you’re at work

Each meal comes complete with a very easy-to-understand menu, and Bob’s your uncle – you unpack each day’s meal when you’re ready to cook when you get home from work.

Naturally, you must be wondering how the meals were. In short, they were pretty amazing. Very simple to make and not unlike something you may have cooked before.

The key, however, lies in some key ingredients that they add, that you may not think of adding yourself. These small additions turns a chicken breast into something that tastes like it was cooked by a professional chef.

Baked Tilapia and Greens Risotto
Baked Tilapia and Greens Risotto – I barely cook fish, so this was a welcome change. Very tasty, portion was a tad small though.

The fourth meal was Curried Chickpea and Greek Bulgar. I did not get to make this due to my schedule being a bit tight at the time.

All in all, I had a great time cooking these meals and found it to be well worth it. At R105 per meal (R820 for the week for 2 people) for the 2-person DayToDay Fitness Box meal, it’s affordable and worth skipping the queues and not having to worry about what’s for dinner.
